Every child learns differently, and some may find it challenging to stay engaged, manage big emotions, or use new skills outside of therapy. That’s where outdoor Occupational Therapy groups make a difference. By bringing therapy into natural, playful environments, children can practice important skills while exploring and having fun.
Even when therapy is effective, children may experience challenges like:
Recognizing these challenges is the first step toward helping children thrive.
Our nature-based groups are designed to address these challenges naturally:
1. Motivation Through Play
Children are naturally drawn to exploring outdoors. Climbing, running, and building in nature turn skill practice into fun, engaging activities.
2. Real-World Skill Practice
Through semi-structured free play, kids work on balance, eye–hand coordination, strength, fine and gross motor skills, visual–spatial skills, and problem-solving—right where life happens. Uneven ground, trees, and natural obstacles create meaningful, real-world challenges.
3. Regulation Support
Nature serves as its own therapeutic medium. Natural sensory input — from the feel of grass to the sounds of birds — helps children stay calm, focused, and emotionally regulated.
4. Social Growth
Our co-regulated group play opportunities in the outdoors provide a safe place for kids to practice communication, sharing, teamwork, and turn-taking—all in a low-pressure, natural environment.
The skills kids practice in our outdoor Occupational Therapy groups transfer to everyday activities.
These real-world connections make therapy feel meaningful, and help kids grow in ways families can see every day.
Parents consistently see positive changes in children who participate in outdoor Occupational Therapy groups:
If you want your child to grow their motor, sensory, and social skills in a motivating, real-world environment, our outdoor OT groups may be the perfect fit.
