Private Pediatric OT Across San Jose Neighborhoods — No Waitlist

TheraPeeps delivers comprehensive pediatric OT evaluation and individualized therapy to families throughout San Jose, including Willow Glen, Almaden Valley, and Evergreen. We come directly to your home, your child’s daycare, or their school. No clinic, no commute, no referral queue.

San Jose Unified School District and Santa Clara County programs carry long waitlists. Many families receive limited services that do not cover the full scope of what their child needs. TheraPeeps operates as a private practice, which means we are not bound by district timelines or eligibility windows. We work with families across San Jose’s diverse communities, including Latino, Vietnamese, East Asian, and mixed-heritage households, understanding that how families interpret and support a child’s development is deeply personal. Our evaluation is designed to give you a detailed, clinically grounded picture of your child so you can move forward with a clear plan.

How TheraPeeps Differs from SJUSD and County OT Programs

TheraPeeps brings clinical specializations that are uncommon in private practice in the South Bay. Here is what sets our approach apart.

  • We start when your child is ready, not when a waitlist clears. Because we are a private practice, we are typically able to begin within weeks of your first call, not months. For families who have already spent time in county referral queues, that speed matters enormously.
  • Our evaluations are built to answer questions, not just assign scores. Our comprehensive OT evaluation goes beyond standardized testing to include clinical observation, caregiver interview, and a written report that translates findings into a concrete plan your family can use, and that you can share with SJUSD, your pediatrician, or a specialist.
  • Our approach is relationship-based, not compliance-based. We do not use ABA methods. Our work is grounded in DIR/Floortime, sensory integration, and the Safe and Sound Protocol, each of which builds on your child’s strengths and internal motivation rather than drilling behaviors for an observer’s checklist. For families who have been through the public system without clear answers, our evaluation and written report are designed to provide that clarity.
  • Our specializations are rare in the South Bay. SIPT and STAR certification, Board Certification in Autism, SOS Approach feeding therapy, and SSP are not common in private practice. Our team’s 20+ years of combined experience means you are not working with a general pediatric OT, you are working with specialists.
  • Therapy happens in your world. Coming to your Almaden Valley home or your child’s school in Evergreen means the skills your child builds transfer immediately to the environments where they need them most.

Cisco, Adobe, and PayPal OON Benefits and Private-Pay OT

If your family works for Cisco, Adobe, PayPal, eBay, or Apple’s South Bay campuses, your employer-sponsored PPO plan very likely includes out-of-network occupational therapy benefits for a dependent child. These benefits are separate from HMO restrictions and often go unused simply because families do not know to ask. Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask specifically about out-of-network OT for a child under age eight. TheraPeeps provides a detailed superbill after each session that you can submit directly for reimbursement.

TheraPeeps is a private-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly, which allows us to spend full, uninterrupted session time on your child’s actual needs rather than managing prior authorizations or documentation requirements set by insurance reviewers who have never met your family. We encourage you to call the member services number on your insurance card and ask specifically about out-of-network occupational therapy benefits for a dependent child, many families recover a meaningful portion of session costs this way.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have been on SJUSD and county waitlists for months, how quickly can TheraPeeps actually start?

We hear this from San Jose families regularly, and it is one of the most important reasons TheraPeeps exists. As a private practice, we are not bound by district timelines, county caseloads, or IEP eligibility windows. We are typically able to schedule an initial evaluation within a few weeks of your first contact. If your child needs support now, please call us at (650) 204-0677, we will give you an honest timeline based on current availability.

Do you serve Willow Glen, Almaden Valley, and Evergreen?

Yes. We serve families throughout San Jose, including Willow Glen, Almaden Valley, Evergreen, the Rose Garden neighborhood, Berryessa, and other communities across the city. Because we are a mobile practice, we come to your home, your child’s daycare, or their school, you tell us where therapy will be most effective for your child, and we come to you. If you are unsure whether your specific address falls within our service area, give us a call and we will confirm.

My child already has an IEP through SJUSD, how does private OT work alongside that?

San Jose Unified School District OT services are defined by what SJUSD considers educationally necessary, which means many legitimate developmental and sensory needs fall outside what an IEP will cover. Private OT through TheraPeeps is not restricted by that standard. We can address sensory processing, emotional regulation, feeding, fine motor development, and other areas that SJUSD may have identified but cannot fully serve within the IEP framework. Many families in San Jose use private OT to fill that gap while continuing to benefit from their school-based services. With your permission, we are glad to coordinate directly with your child’s SJUSD team to keep goals aligned.

What does a comprehensive OT evaluation include, and how long does it take?

Our comprehensive OT evaluation is the foundation of everything we do, and it is especially valuable for San Jose families who have spent time in referral systems without getting clear answers. The evaluation includes standardized assessments (we are SIPT and STAR certified for sensory integration), structured clinical observation of your child in a naturalistic setting, and an in-depth caregiver interview. You receive a written report that explains our findings in plain language and outlines specific recommendations. The evaluation process typically spans one to two sessions, and we schedule time afterward to walk you through the results and answer your questions. This is not a checkbox, it is a roadmap.

My child’s school uses an ABA-based approach. Is TheraPeeps compatible with that?

Our philosophy is neuro-affirming and relationship-based, we do not use ABA methods in our OT practice. We are grounded in DIR/Floortime, sensory integration, and the Safe and Sound Protocol, all of which prioritize your child’s intrinsic motivation, nervous system regulation, and developmental readiness. That said, we believe in collaborative care. If your child is already working with a BCBA or ABA team through school, we can communicate respectfully with that team and focus our OT work in the areas where our approach is most effective. Many families find that the two can complement each other when communication is strong.
