We have been on SJUSD and county waitlists for months, how quickly can TheraPeeps actually start?
We hear this from San Jose families regularly, and it is one of the most important reasons TheraPeeps exists. As a private practice, we are not bound by district timelines, county caseloads, or IEP eligibility windows. We are typically able to schedule an initial evaluation within a few weeks of your first contact. If your child needs support now, please call us at (650) 204-0677, we will give you an honest timeline based on current availability.
Do you serve Willow Glen, Almaden Valley, and Evergreen?
Yes. We serve families throughout San Jose, including Willow Glen, Almaden Valley, Evergreen, the Rose Garden neighborhood, Berryessa, and other communities across the city. Because we are a mobile practice, we come to your home, your child’s daycare, or their school, you tell us where therapy will be most effective for your child, and we come to you. If you are unsure whether your specific address falls within our service area, give us a call and we will confirm.
My child already has an IEP through SJUSD, how does private OT work alongside that?
San Jose Unified School District OT services are defined by what SJUSD considers educationally necessary, which means many legitimate developmental and sensory needs fall outside what an IEP will cover. Private OT through TheraPeeps is not restricted by that standard. We can address sensory processing, emotional regulation, feeding, fine motor development, and other areas that SJUSD may have identified but cannot fully serve within the IEP framework. Many families in San Jose use private OT to fill that gap while continuing to benefit from their school-based services. With your permission, we are glad to coordinate directly with your child’s SJUSD team to keep goals aligned.
What does a comprehensive OT evaluation include, and how long does it take?
Our comprehensive OT evaluation is the foundation of everything we do, and it is especially valuable for San Jose families who have spent time in referral systems without getting clear answers. The evaluation includes standardized assessments (we are SIPT and STAR certified for sensory integration), structured clinical observation of your child in a naturalistic setting, and an in-depth caregiver interview. You receive a written report that explains our findings in plain language and outlines specific recommendations. The evaluation process typically spans one to two sessions, and we schedule time afterward to walk you through the results and answer your questions. This is not a checkbox, it is a roadmap.
My child’s school uses an ABA-based approach. Is TheraPeeps compatible with that?
Our philosophy is neuro-affirming and relationship-based, we do not use ABA methods in our OT practice. We are grounded in DIR/Floortime, sensory integration, and the Safe and Sound Protocol, all of which prioritize your child’s intrinsic motivation, nervous system regulation, and developmental readiness. That said, we believe in collaborative care. If your child is already working with a BCBA or ABA team through school, we can communicate respectfully with that team and focus our OT work in the areas where our approach is most effective. Many families find that the two can complement each other when communication is strong.
