In-Home Pediatric Occupational Therapy Across the Bay Area

Expert OT delivered at your home, your child’s school, or outdoors, where real progress happens.

Why Children Make Faster Progress in Their Own Environment

The skills that matter most are the ones your child can use right now, in the places they actually live.

Clinic-based therapy asks a child to learn a skill in a controlled, unfamiliar room and then transfer it home. In-home OT skips that transfer problem entirely. When your therapist works with your child in the kitchen, the bedroom, the backyard, or the school classroom, the skills being built are immediately connected to the real-world context where they need to show up.

For children with sensory processing differences, ADHD, or Autism, generalizing a skill from a clinical setting to home can be one of the hardest parts of progress. By working in your child’s natural environment, we reduce that cognitive load and accelerate meaningful, lasting development.

Parents also learn more. When your OT is right there alongside you in your actual home, coaching becomes immediate and practical. You see exactly how to set up the morning routine, how to modify the dinner table for a sensory-sensitive eater, and how to create a calming corner that actually works for your specific child.

What to Expect During an In-Home OT Session

No waiting rooms, no transition stress, just purposeful play in a familiar space.

Your therapist arrives at your home (or school or outdoor meeting point) with all the materials needed for the session. Sessions typically run 45 to 60 minutes and are structured around your child’s current goals, but flexible enough to follow their lead on any given day.

A session might include:

  • Proprioceptive and vestibular activities using portable swings, resistance bands, or a backpack weighted just right for your child’s sensory needs (proprioception is the sense of body position and movement; vestibular input comes from motion and gravity)
  • Fine motor tasks embedded in play: threading, cutting, building, drawing
  • Feeding practice at your actual table, with your child’s real foods and dishes
  • Emotional regulation strategies practiced in the moments and spaces where dysregulation typically occurs
  • Parent coaching woven throughout, so you leave every session with tools you can use today

We wrap up with a brief check-in with you, sharing observations, progress notes, and home strategies before the next session.

Frequently Asked Questions

For most pediatric OT goals, in-home therapy is at least as effective as clinic-based care, and for many children it produces faster progress. Generalization, carrying a new skill from the therapy setting into real life, is one of the hardest parts of development. In-home OT removes that barrier by building skills directly in the environment where they need to be used.

We serve Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Saratoga, and San Jose. If you’re unsure whether your address is in our service area, call us at (650) 204-0677 and we’ll let you know right away.

No preparation is needed on your end. Our therapists bring all the tools, materials, and sensory equipment needed for each session. We may occasionally recommend adding something specific to your home environment, but that will be a collaborative conversation, never a requirement before we begin.

Yes. Therapeeps provides mobile OT at private schools and daycares throughout our service area. School-based sessions allow us to support your child’s academic and social participation directly in the environment where those challenges are most visible. Contact us to discuss what’s possible at your child’s specific school.
