Do you really drive out to Bonny Doon? That seems far.
We do. Bonny Doon is one of the most rural areas we serve, and we made that choice deliberately. We believe that the families who live furthest from traditional healthcare infrastructure are often the ones who benefit most from a provider who comes to them. We plan our schedules to accommodate the drive, and we are committed to showing up consistently. Travel fees may apply depending on your location, we will discuss that openly before your first appointment so you know exactly what to expect.
Can therapy sessions happen outside, in our forest, yard, or on our property?
Absolutely, and for many Bonny Doon families this is one of the most exciting parts of working with us. Our DIR/Floortime and nature-based approaches are specifically designed to use the child’s real environment as a therapeutic context. A creek, a garden, a redwood grove, open land, these are not distractions from therapy, they are opportunities within it. Outdoor sessions on your property are something we actively welcome and plan for.
We live off-grid. Is there anything we need to have set up before a session?
Not much, and we mean that sincerely. Pediatric OT does not require a clinical space or a plug-in setup. What matters is that your child has a familiar, comfortable environment and that there is room for us to move and play together. If you have limited cell service or a gate code we should know about, just let us know when we schedule. We will confirm logistics with you directly before each visit so there are no surprises on either side.
What age range does TheraPeeps serve, and when is the right time to reach out?
We work with children from birth through age 8. For families in Bonny Doon, early access is especially hard. There is no nearby pediatric clinic, and the drive to a specialist in Santa Cruz or the South Bay is a genuine obstacle that causes many families to wait, sometimes for more than a year, before a child gets support. In-home care removes that barrier entirely. If you have a concern about your child’s development, we welcome your call.
Our family uses an alternative or unschooling approach to education. Will TheraPeeps fit with that?
Yes. Our philosophy is neuro-affirming and relationship-based, we follow the child’s lead and work within the family’s values, not against them. We are not here to prepare your child for a standardized mold. We support sensory regulation, connection, motor development, and emotional wellbeing in ways that respect how your family lives and what you believe. Many of the families we serve hold non-traditional approaches to learning, and we find that our methods fit naturally alongside those values.
