In-Home Pediatric OT for Atherton Families

TheraPeeps delivers in-home pediatric occupational therapy directly to Atherton families — in your home, on your grounds, or at your child’s independent school campus. Atherton families expect discretion, clinical excellence, and services that fit their lives. Our mobile model provides exactly that: clinic-quality OT without the clinic.

We work with children attending Encinal Elementary and Hillview Middle through the Menlo Park City School District, as well as students at Sacred Heart Schools, Menlo School, Woodside Priory, and other independent programs serving the Atherton community. We also serve neighboring Menlo Park and Palo Alto families.

OT Services for Atherton and Menlo Park City SD Families

We offer the full range of pediatric OT services to Atherton families, delivered in your home, your estate grounds, or your child’s school. Atherton children often carry high academic expectations from an early age — and regulation, sensory processing, and fine motor development are the foundational skills that make everything else possible. Our evidence-based approach addresses those foundations directly.

Our therapists are familiar with Menlo Park City School District procedures and coordinate with school teams at Encinal, Hillview, and independent campuses when school collaboration is appropriate.

What We Evaluate and Address in Atherton Children

TheraPeeps works with children across the full range of developmental and sensory profiles. No formal diagnosis is required to begin — many Atherton families find that our evaluation itself provides clarity they couldn’t get elsewhere. We assess thoroughly and build a care plan based on what we observe.

Atherton and Peninsula families most frequently seek us out for sensory integration, emotional regulation, and fine motor development. Early, targeted OT makes a measurable difference — the nervous system is most responsive to intervention in the earliest years.

  • Sensory Processing Disorder and sensory sensitivities
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • ADHD and attention and impulse regulation
  • Anxiety presenting as rigidity, avoidance, or emotional overwhelm
  • Developmental delays (fine motor, gross motor, adaptive)
  • Dyspraxia and motor planning challenges
  • Feeding difficulties and food selectivity
  • Handwriting and pencil-skill delays
  • Difficulty with transitions and flexible thinking
  • Hypotonia (low muscle tone) affecting school and play

What Sets TheraPeeps Apart for Atherton Families

We come to you — your Atherton home, your estate grounds, or your child’s independent school campus. There are no waiting rooms, no commutes, and no scheduling gymnastics around clinic hours. We design every session to respect your family’s privacy and time.

Our clinical credentials are specialized and hard to find. SIPT and STAR certification for sensory integration, SOS Approach training for feeding, Board Certification in Autism, DIR/Floortime expertise, and Safe and Sound Protocol — this depth of advanced post-graduate training is rarely accessible outside major academic medical centers, and it comes to your front door.

Our approach is neuro-affirming and developmental. Atherton children are often high achievers in environments where expectations are intense. Our sessions focus on building your child’s internal capacity for self-regulation and flexible thinking, not on producing impressive output for a parent report. Children build durable skills faster when therapy is grounded in connection and child-led engagement. We are not an ABA practice.

We understand the Atherton school context. From the college-preparatory environments at Sacred Heart Schools and Menlo School to the nurturing early-childhood community at Encinal Elementary, we are familiar with the expectations Atherton children navigate and write OT goals that support functioning in those specific settings.

Private-Pay Pricing and OON Reimbursement in Atherton

TheraPeeps is a private-pay practice. We provide detailed superbills after each session that you can submit to your insurance carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many Atherton families carry premium PPO plans through employer benefits in finance, venture capital, or technology — plans that often include meaningful out-of-network OT benefits. Families with strong out-of-network benefits routinely recover 50–80% of session costs. Call member services on your card before starting and ask specifically about out-of-network outpatient occupational therapy benefits and your annual deductible status.

If your employer offers an HSA or FSA, occupational therapy is typically a qualified medical expense and can be paid with pre-tax dollars.

Please contact us at (650) 204-0677 to ask about current session rates and evaluation fees. We offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation and will answer every question about costs, session frequency, and logistics before you commit to anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. In-home and in-school service delivery is the foundation of TheraPeeps’ model. We travel to your Atherton residence or, with school approval, directly to your child’s campus — whether that is Sacred Heart Schools, Menlo School, Woodside Priory, Encinal Elementary, or another program. Campus sessions allow us to observe your child in the actual setting where challenges arise and coordinate directly with teachers and learning specialists.

We work with families whose children attend Encinal Elementary and Hillview Middle through Menlo Park City School District, as well as Sacred Heart Schools, Menlo School, Woodside Priory, and other independent and preparatory schools on the Peninsula. We are familiar with MPCSD special education procedures and can communicate with your child’s IEP or Student Support team when coordination is part of the plan.

This is one of the most common profiles we see on the Peninsula. Gifted, high-achieving children are frequently also highly sensitive — their nervous systems pick up more information than typical, which can manifest as emotional overwhelm, rigidity, sensory aversions, or difficulty transitioning between tasks. Our approach is non-pathologizing, strengths-based, and designed to build self-awareness and regulation tools rather than simply manage behavior.

No. A diagnosis is never a prerequisite. Many Atherton families come to us with a concern that has not yet been formally labeled — a child who struggles with food textures, cannot sit through homework, has handwriting that doesn’t match their verbal intelligence, or falls apart at transitions. We evaluate what we observe and what families report, then build a treatment plan accordingly.

After each session, TheraPeeps provides a superbill — a detailed receipt with all procedure codes, diagnostic codes, and provider information your insurer needs to process an out-of-network claim. You submit the superbill to your carrier, and they reimburse you according to your plan’s out-of-network benefit. Many Atherton families carry PPO plans through employers in finance or technology with strong out-of-network benefits — reimbursement of 50–80% after the deductible is common. Call member services on your card before starting and ask specifically about your out-of-network outpatient OT benefit.
