Why We Don’t Accept Insurance – and Why That’s a Good Thing

When you’re looking for any type of therapy for your child, one of the first questions that comes up is: “Do you take insurance?” At our occupational therapy practice, the answer is no — and that’s actually a good thing. We know choosing private pay therapy can feel like a big decision. That’s why we want to be transparent about why we operate this way and how it benefits your child’s care in real, meaningful ways.

Faster Access to Care, Without Insurance Delays

Insurance approval often means waiting. Parents may be required to:

➡️ Get a referral
➡️ Obtain a prior authorization
➡️ Complete extra paperwork
➡️ Receive a formal diagnosis

All before therapy can even begin.

With private pay therapy, we skip the red tape:

✅ You don’t need a referral to get started
✅ There are no pre-authorization delays.
✅ We can often schedule your child as soon as a therapist has availability.

That means you get the support you’re looking for when you need it most.

More Personalized Support for Your Child

Insurance companies often decide what kind of therapy they’ll cover, how often it can happen, and how long it should last — even if your child still needs help!

With private pay therapy:

  • We build a care plan based on your child’s needs, not an insurance checklist.

  • We’re able to work on foundational skills that might not be covered but are still essential, like sensory processing, feeding, or play-based social skills.

  • We can adjust our approach in real time as your child grows and progresses.

Your child gets therapy that’s flexible, responsive, and tailored. Not one-size-fits-all.

We Work for You, Not the Insurance Company

When families choose private pay therapy, our entire focus is on serving you, not meeting insurance requirements or chasing approvals. That gives us the freedom to:

  • Spend more time with your family

  • Communicate openly and regularly about progress.

  • Offer support and coaching that extends beyond the therapy room.

Our goal is to partner with you to help your child thrive without limitations or fine print.

What If I Still Want to Use Insurance?

Many families choose to submit superbills, which are therapy receipts that include all the necessary medical codes, session details, and provider information, to their insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

While we don’t bill insurance directly, we’re happy to provide these documents on a regular basis so you can submit them yourself if your plan allows it.

Here’s how it usually works:

  1. You pay us directly for services at the time of your visit.
  2. We provide a superbill (typically weekly) with all the required information.
  3. You submit it to your insurance company, either through their online portal or by mail.
  4. They reimburse you directly, if your plan includes out-of-network benefits.

Every plan is different, so we recommend calling your insurance company to ask about:

👉 Whether a referral or diagnosis is required
👉 Out-of-network coverage for occupational therapy
👉 Reimbursement rates

The Bottom Line

Private pay therapy gives you more flexibility, fewer delays, and care that’s fully focused on your child’s unique needs not insurance policies.

We know it’s an investment, and we don’t take that lightly. That’s why we’re committed to providing high-quality, personalized occupational therapy services that make a meaningful difference in your child’s life.
